Houssam Maarouf was born in 1971 and raised in Tyre, Lebanon.
He graduated in 1996 with a degree in business management
(Diplomkaufmann) from the Handelshochschule Leipzig (Leipzig
Graduate School of Management). In 1998 he established the
advertising and communications agency mediaAGENT.
Houssam Maarouf is a German citizen and lives in Berlin with his
wife and two daughters.
Mr. Maarouf has established a strong network of both German and
Arab business relations. He has consulted and advised both German
companies interested in the Arab market and Arab companies
active in Europe. As the managing director of mediaAGENT he also
counts the diplomatic representations of most Arab countries
among his clients.
Both professionally and personally Houssam Maarouf takes active
part in developing and maintaining strong and mutually beneficial
ties between Germany and the Arab countries. He is, for example,
the publisher of Al Maqam, a quarterly German-language magazine
that presents the richness and variety of Arab culture and arts both
past and present.
Houssam Maarouf is strongly involved in several associations and
institutions promoting intercultural understanding and German-Arab
cooperation. Chief among them is the DAFG – Deutsch-Arabische
Freundschaftsgesellschaft e.V. where he is vice president and a
member of the executive committee. Founded in 2007, the DAFG
has quickly developed into a key institution for the advancement of
friendship and cooperation between Germany and the Arab world.
